Wild Horse Taproom: Running, Riding and Raising a Glass in Llandudno

Introduction

Wild Horse Taproom in Llandudno has been named Wales' Community Sport Hero at the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards 2026, presented at a House of Commons reception on 8 September. Nominated by Claire Hughes MP, the independent brewery taproom has become a hub for active living, with free clubs that welcome everyone.

What they did

Wild Horse Brewing Co organises and runs the Wild Horse Running Club and the Wild Horse Cycling Club. Both meet monthly and are free to join. Experienced athletes and complete beginners take part side by side, and every ability is welcome.

The taproom also hosts regular charity events, including the ‘Big Fat Tappy Quiz’, which recently raised funds for the Tom Furey Memorial Trust.

The community reaction

The clubs have brought together residents from across the area who might otherwise never have met. Members join for the exercise and stay for the company.

Impact

By making the clubs free and open to all, Wild Horse encourages more people to get active. The benefits go beyond fitness, supporting mental wellbeing, tackling isolation and building lasting connections in the town.

Summary

Wild Horse shows how a local business can use its space and profile to get its community moving. Its win celebrates a grassroots approach to sport that anyone can join.
