Teddy’s started with one local darts team. Today it has three, and a fourth is already being planned. The pub promotes local league participation, hosts competitive and social darts events, and provides quality facilities that encourage new players to pick up the arrows.
Manager Simon Anderson-Crothers and the team have focused on making the oche open to everyone, whatever their age or ability.
Many players now see Teddy’s as their sporting home. Match nights draw spectators as well as players, and friendships formed at the board continue well beyond the game.
The darts programme has brought together people who might never have met, giving them a regular social outlet that supports physical activity and positive mental wellbeing. It has also strengthened local league competition and made Teddy’s one of the area’s leading venues for grassroots darts.
Teddy’s shows that community sport doesn’t need a pitch or a stadium. With time, space and enthusiasm, a local pub can grow a sport and a community around it.
