Lily’s Kitchen & Bar: 600 Christmas Meals for Glenavy Families

Introduction

Lily's Kitchen & Bar in Glenavy has been named a finalist in the Community Fundraising Hero – Northern Ireland category of the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards 2026. The rural pub's proudest achievement is a Christmas partnership with local charity Foodstock.

What they did

Over the festive season, the Lily’s team worked with Foodstock to prepare more than 600 meals for local families and individuals. Staff gave many hours to cooking fresh meals, organising collections and helping with distribution.

Lily’s also sponsors and supports Glenavy GAC, Glenavy Academy FC and Glenavy FC, helping with kit, fundraising, raffles and celebrations, and supports local children who compete in a range of sports.

The community reaction

The project brought together staff, volunteers, suppliers and customers in a shared effort at Christmas, and the kindness shown by the team was warmly received.

Impact

The meals made sure people in the area had a warm meal over the festive period. Support for grassroots clubs and young athletes helps them access opportunities to compete and grow.

Summary

Owner Liam Cullen says community work is simply part of who Lily’s is. Its finalist place recognises a rural pub that measures success in the people it helps.
