Patsy’s Bar: Coleraine Customers Who Give All They Can

Introduction

Patsy's Bar in Coleraine has been crowned Northern Ireland's Community Fundraising Hero at the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards 2026, presented at a House of Commons reception on 8 September. Fundraising here is driven by generations of loyal local customers.

What they did

A weekly meat prize draw raises funds all year round. On top of that comes a long list of fundraisers: sponsored walks, fancy dress days, pool and darts competitions, nights at the races, singo bingo, golf days, charity football matches, eating contests, and even a skydive and marathon.

The bar also collects food, toys and blankets for animal rescues, passes unclaimed clothing to charity shops, helps local people get to hospital appointments, and runs free food Sundays.

The community reaction

Customers look out for each other. If someone hasn’t been seen for a day or two, regulars check in to make sure they’re OK.

Impact

Funds raised have supported local young people representing their county and country in sports including martial arts, football, stock car racing, darts and pool. Larger charities including the RNLI, cancer, heart, animal and autism charities have benefited, along with Sandleford Special School, local youth and adult teams, Cornfield Men’s Veterans Club and the Cross Glebe Community Association Men’s Group.

Summary

Patsy’s Bar is a place where people give freely to help others. Its win belongs to the customers who make it happen.
