The Auld Hoose: Kinghorn’s Open Mic Night with a Big Heart

Introduction

The Auld Hoose in Kinghorn has been crowned Scotland's Community Fundraising Hero at the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards 2026, presented at a House of Commons reception on 8 September. Nominated by Melanie Ward MP, the Fife pub raises funds for local charities while giving its community a place to meet.

What they did

The pub’s monthly open mic night has run for more than four years, raising funds for a different local charity each time. It also gives new musicians and comedians a stage, and it has even received a message of support from The Proclaimers.

Beneficiaries include Kinghorn Community Library, Kinghorn Lifeboats, Burntisland and Kinghorn Food Bank, Down’s Syndrome Scotland and Re-engage. Race nights, quizzes, Santa’s grottos and a collection box have also supported the Kinghorn Children’s Gala, the community centre and the village play parks.

The community reaction

Alongside fundraising, the pub hosts Re-engage’s monthly tea party for older people, a Saturday social club with dominoes and games, and Christmas parties for local children.

Impact

Regular, reliable fundraising makes a real difference to small local charities, and the pub’s free social events help keep people connected.

Summary

On the Fife Coastal Path, The Auld Hoose has become a central part of Kinghorn, and its win celebrates years of steady fundraising and community spirit.
