The pub’s annual sheep shearing event, Cneifio Cylch, is known across Anglesey. Shearers compete to be fastest, families enjoy a day out, and an auction rounds things off. Last year’s event supported Wales Air Ambulance, Hope House Children’s Hospice, the Heulwen cancer treatment unit and Plas Crigyll dementia day care centre.
The family behind the pub, including Rob Williams, regularly fundraise for the local football club and help look after its grounds. The club’s youth section has grown, and its girls’ section is one of the strongest on the island. Quizzes, bingo and Welsh concerts support the Urdd Eisteddfod, the local school and nursery, and other groups.
The pub also stands with its community in times of remembrance, hosting a collection in memory of a young local man for Wales Air Ambulance. As one local put it: “Tafarn gymunedol go iawn… Yn barod pob tro i fynd y filltir ychwanegol i helpu!” (“A proper community pub… Always ready to go the extra mile to help!”)
The Bull Inn has supported a wide range of local and national causes, while returning a vital meeting place to village life.
The Bull Inn shows what can happen when a community pub is brought back to life. It has become the centre of Llannerchymedd and a powerful force for good across Anglesey.
