Each May, Three Hounds holds a beer festival and touch rugby tournament with Beckenham Rugby Football Club. The weekend brings the community together, with funds raised going towards improvements at the club.
The bar sponsors rugby players at the club, with a focus on helping those moving up from the youth teams. It also sponsors Beckenham United FC, and it introduced the club to another local business that now sponsors one of its junior teams.
The bar also runs weekly eight-a-side football, has plans for a charity five-a-side tournament, and is bringing back the Three Hounds Running Club.
Friendships formed at the weekly football have spread well beyond the bar, with players now going to games and birthdays together. A Three Hounds cricket team is in the works for 2027. Owner Matt Walden said: “I can’t wait to do this all over again next year, to continue to support my local rugby club, the community and neighbourhood I call home.”
The bar’s support is helping local clubs thrive. Beckenham United has achieved back-to-back promotions, and Three Hounds has helped bring new life to its local shopping parade.
Three Hounds shows that size is no barrier to community impact. By connecting clubs, businesses and customers, it has made sport a shared project for the neighbourhood.
