Yr Owain Glyndwr faced competition from over 1,000 entries nationwide in the fifth year of the PubAid Community Pub Hero Awards. The pub was recognised for its exceptional community support, particularly under the new ownership of Mark and Tammie Williams. Since purchasing the previously run-down pub two years ago, they have revitalised it, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.
The pub hosts a variety of events aimed at bringing the community together and raising money for local charities, including the local church and cancer ward. The dedicated staff team regularly checks in on regulars, delivering food to those who are unwell and ensuring their well-being.
Mark Williams expressed his joy, stating, “I am chuffed for myself and my wife Tammy, who bought the pub. We work full-time so this is a part-time job for us. It means a lot to us, the staff, and the community. It’s important that pubs are used by the community and tourists. There are 18 pubs a week that close. They’re vital for the mental health and well-being of those who use them. So please use them or lose them!”
